Be aware of a new type of malware that’s cropping up called Ransomware or Extortionware. My introduction to it came from an attack at a local office where an infection encrypted the personal files of all users on the network. There was no recent backup, so the only option to get the files back was to pay the $300 that was required to get the key to decrypt the files. Read more about it here:

Living Social Hacked

“If you have ever signed up to receive special offers from LivingSocial, it is time to change your LivingSocial password. The daily deals site recently fell victim to a cyber attack.
Customer information including names, email addresses, dates of birth and encrypted passwords were exposed. Fortunately, credit card information was NOT stolen during the attack.”

So, two years after starting JGITC, I’ve finally created a website. I dithered between using a Content Management System and creating a static website, and finally settled on the former. I originally set the site up on Joomla, but WordPress struck me as a better choice. It seems simpler than Joomla or Drupal, yet it can be as complex as I’ll ever need it to be.
I’ll be updating the site over time, so be patient with me as I learn how to put a site together.
